Gross gaming revenue in Spain increased by 17% in 2024

(Madrid).- The 2024 Spanish national online gaming market report was published. It shows that gross gaming revenue reached €1,454.59 million in 2024, a 17.61% increase over the previous year.

-Deposits and withdrawals continued their upward trend, increasing compared to 2023 by 19.62% and 19.73% respectively.
-Marketing spending in 2024 was €526.30 million, 30.36% higher than the previous year. Spending on affiliates increased by 10.27%, advertising by 37.17%, sponsorship by 14.01%, and promotions by 30.84%.
-The number of active players in 2024 was 1,992,889, 21.71% higher than the previous year.
-The GGR analysis by gaming segment shows that:
The €1,454.59 million GGR is distributed as follows: €608.85 million in Betting (41.86%); €14.94 million in Bingo (1.06%); €730.71 million in Casino (50.23%); and €100.08 million in Poker (6.88%).
-The betting segment has a growth rate of 23.80% year-over-year. This growth is due to conventional fixed-odds sports betting, which increased by 23.69% last year, and live betting by 24.05%. In 2024, the market for other fixed-odds bets also increased by 33.45%, while fixed-odds horse racing bets decreased by -16.99%.
-Bingo increased in 2024 with an annual growth rate of 3.96%.
-In the casino segment, growth was seen in 2024, with an annual growth rate of 16.96%. This growth is primarily due to the performance of slot machines. Since their launch in 2015, this has led to increasingly higher market shares for casinos compared to other segments. In 2024, they accounted for 64.62% of the casino market and had an annual growth rate of 22.80%. Live roulette increased by 10.41% and blackjack by 3.80% compared to the previous year. In contrast, conventional roulette decreased by -8.46% this year.
-Contests experienced a -98.53% annual growth rate decrease.
-Poker saw a decrease in 2024, achieving an annual growth rate of -4.99%, primarily due to the -3.48% decrease in tournament poker, which also represents 73.58% of this market. Cash poker decreased by -8.97% year-over-year and accounted for 26.42% of the poker market.
-It is also worth noting that since shared liquidity for poker was opened with France and Portugal in January 2018, six platforms have been established in Spain.
-Marketing expenditure in 2024 was €526.30 million, broken down into affiliation expenses: €56.32 million; sponsorship: €5.45 million; promotions: €261.53 million; and advertising: €203.00 million.
-The monthly average number of active accounts was 1,433,715, representing a 23.48% increase year-over-year. The monthly average number of new gaming accounts was 151,898, representing a 34.73% annual growth.
